Golden Gate Canyon State Park Camping

This past weekend we were home, but the weekend before, we were back on the road for another camping trip.  This time Golden Gate Canyon State Park was our destination.  I was running in a race there on Saturday, so we made our way up Friday afternoon for some extra time in this beautiful mountain park.

Within 30 minutes of arriving, Zoe had found the only tree in the forest behind our campsite that was suitable for climbing.  She needed a little prodding, but eventually climbed as high as you can see below.

Without any creeks or lakes to play with, we found other activities to keep us having fun.

Fire and a stick.  That's all I need to be content.

The race on Saturday was awesome.  I was able to see the entire park in single morning.  Some of the more remote parts are spectacular.  Tanya & the girls came out to meet me at a spot where the course passed by the campground.  You can read more about the race here.

The next day, we took a three mile hike on the Raccoon trail.  The race ran on this same trail, so it was fun to show the fam and see it all again - much slower this time!

Even Rocky came with us!

Zoe got the bug to do a little trail running herself!

This hike was straight down for about 1.5 miles and then straight up the other side of a valley.  Thankfully the scenery was off the charts so the girls were distracted from the effort it took to hike up.

We have a few more memories from this trip to share this week.
