Panning for Gold

Panning for Gold
On Saturday, we visited a Ghost Town attraction in Manitou. It was lame. They advertised panning for gold (included with admission), but it was nothing more than sifting through some sand in a wooden trough looking for non-existent specks of gold. They actually had a signing saying you may need tweezers to pick them out of the sand.

Later that afternoon, we were sitting at our campsite next to the creek. The girls were playing in the water. The lightbulb went off and I grabbed a plate for Megan to pan for gold in the creek. She didn't find gold, but it was much more interesting finding other colorful "gems" and kept her busy for quite awhile.

When Zoe grabbed the plate, she opted to pan for worms instead. She was successful to the tune of three crawlers. If only we brought a fishing pole, she could have used them at the trout pond in the park.

  1. Zoe insisted on trying to tie those little worms around a stick so she could fish. She tried for about a half hour before she asked me to help. I wasn't going to touch those wiggly worms, despite her desperate face, so she finally gave up and threw them back in the river.
