Kayaks!

Kayaks!
We've been kicking around the idea of getting kayaks for a few years now. We almost always camp near a lake and our pop-up came with crossbars, so transporting & storing them are easy. After our kayak outing a few weeks ago, the deal was sealed.

We've decided to name our two new vessels in memory of Tanya's dad. The first will be called the "GalenJ" in honor of the vanity license plate that was always on the full sized van he would take fishing and hunting. About 10 years ago, I had the honor of driving the "the GalenJ" for a few months when my car had more problems than a math textbook. It had so much character and I was sad when it was time to move on to...our mini-van.

The second one will be called the "Boofin". He was always quite fond of the nickname "Bluefin" for himself. He liked the name so much that he asked to have his grandkids call him that instead of some variation of Grandpa. He even got creative and decided that "Bluefin" might be too difficult for them to pronounce, so he settled on "Boofin". Well, the name "Papa" was what stuck, but the memory of the "Boofin" name will be memorialized on our kayak.

So we took the GalenJ & Boofin on their maiden voyages this weekend. Lake Dillon is an incredible lake for kayaking. There's a bunch of little coves & islands to explore. This shot was from my early morning trip on Sunday. It doesn't get much better than watching the sunrise on a lake of glass while sipping a hot cup of coffee!

We also encountered wildlife on the lake, but more on that tomorrow...

  1. Do no covet, Rachel, do not covet. That is awesome!

The summer after I graduated college I lived on Huntingtion Harbor, and the owner had kayaks. I loved to go out as the sun was setting and cruise around. It was so relaxing.
