Glenwood Caverns Cave Tour

Glenwood Caverns Cave Tour
This weekend we went on a little family get-away to Glenwood Springs. We had planned on going camping, but after a forecast of cold & rain all weekend, we opted to drive to the sun on the western side of the state.

Glenwood Springs is a funky little town best known for its Hot Springs. The last time we were there, we tried them out and had a blast. This time around, we decide to explore the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. This Park sits atop Iron Mountain overlooking the town. The only way to get there is by gondola (or “coyotes” as Zoe called them. No idea why…but she refused to call them by their right name. So we joined her and they are now coyotes!) They had plenty of fun activities to partake in. We opted for the cave tour and the Canyon Flyer (check back tomorrow).
The cave tour was much more interesting and fun that I had anticipated. Our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. I learned the difference between stalagmites and stalactites! My favorite moment was when we were about 100 feet below the ground in a large “room” as our guide called it. He turned off the lights and had us stand in total darkness. It was spooky and amazing to experience the blackness all around.

  1. Sounds like fun! Glad you opted not to camp. It was a crazy cold weekend for August!
