Sweetheart Ball Recap

Sweetheart Ball Recap
The long awaited Ball finally came. My little sweetheart had been excited all week and wanted to practice dancing with me every chance she could get. We had a great time with our other father & daughter pairs (Scott/Kelsey & Girard/Madeline).

The six of us got there and immediately hit the dance floor. All of Megan's excitement to dance disappeared when she got out there. It was dark...there were lots of people...the music was loud...and she was like a deer in headlights. Despite my best efforts to get her groove going, she announced she was done and wanted to exit the dance floor.

The night was still lots of fun. Snacks, a special portrait, ice cream sundaes, etc.

We finished the evening with all six of us going on a horse & carriage ride around the grounds of the HR mansion. It was Megan's highlight. It didn't matter that it was cold, windy and snowing. It was all she talked about the next day...her horse ride around the "castle".

So what was my favorite moment?? Dancing with Megan to the one slow song they played the whole night. "My Girl" by the Temptations. All the dads were singing aloud to their daughters. Very cool.

  4. Yup I'm crying - happy tears for Megan and Woody and sad tears for all daughter and daddies who never had that chance.

  5. Mike was going to do this with Aubrey this year and decided against it since it is on our anniversary. How do you manage it with two daughters down the road?

  6. Rachel - I think the best age is around 4-5. Zoe will probably want in next year, but this year she was fine not going. I noticed that some Dads brought two girls. I also saw some Dad/Grandpa combos. They run the ball on two consecutive nights (Fri/Sat), so I think that will be my choice for next year. It's nice to make it a special night of one on one time.

  7. I was talking to a firend of mine about this too. Her husband is taking both girls 9, 12. She said the 12 year old is excited to be at a dance with all her friends and the 9 year old is excited about a night with daddy.

What a fun thing you dads get to do with your daughters. It makes me a little sad that I don't have a little man to go on special dates with too. Oh well, I will have to "settle" for dates with Mike!
