Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child
Last Wednesday night, the guys from our Home Group went downtown to work at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center for a few hours. It was a very cool experience and it's been a long time since I've laughed so hard!

Operation Christmas Child is run by an organization called Samaritan's Purse. People from all over the States pack shoeboxes with gifts and then they ship the shoeboxes all over the world to children in need.

Our job was to inspect the boxes for "inappropriate" items (chocolate, liquids, snakes, etc) and then prepare them for shipping. We had a little assembly line thing going and found great joy in pointing out when another guy screwed up his job! If you screwed up too many times, you were relegated to the "taping" job...the least favorite of them all.

The Denver Processing Center is one of six in the US. They plan to process 600,000 shoeboxes in the next few weeks. I don't know how many we did in 4 hours, but there were so many more. It was cool to see the generosity of people and know what an impact these shoeboxes were going to make.

  2. I thought it said Operation Christmas Chili in the photo. It would also be cool to package chili...

That's awesome that you got to participate in something that impacts so many.
