Another Camping Trip...

Another Camping Trip...
Following Paul McLean's lead, I decided to book a night of camping with Megan...down in our basement. On Friday night, Tanya went out with our sister-in-law, Jennifer, for a girls night out. Meanwhile, Megan & I took the opportunity to have some father-daughter bonding time. Megan was fired up all day for our excursion.

Zoe got to hang out with us at the beginning while we setup camp. We got the sleeping bags and her Dora tent all in position...yes, that is a comfy twin mattress for Dad to sleep on! After setup, Zoe got shuffled off to her crib for the night. Back in the basement, we turned the lights off and used our battery-powered lanterns to move around. I love how the imaginations of little ones can just run wild with ideas like this. We lit our gas fireplace, pulled up our camp chairs and ate our improvised s'mores (Microwave-warmed marshmallows stuffed w/ chocolate chips). To wind down, we watched part of a movie and then read some stories by lantern light. My favorite moment was reading, 'Just Me & My Dad'...a cute story about a dad and child on a camping trip gone wrong. It ends with them reading stories in the tent.

Our camping trip finale came when we woke up. We immediately hopped in the car and drove to the 'donut store' as Megan calls it. She got to pick out any donut she wanted. Of course she picked the one covered with tons of chocolate candies.

  2. Thats an amazing gift you gave her and she you. Steve and Katie just went camping in the real outdoors, although I would go for the fireplace, mattress, TV and do nuts. The most important part of camping is the Father/Daughter time. How I wish my Dad would have done something like that with me - outdoors or indoors. You are great fathers!
