West Brush Creek

Our campsite was situated next to Brush Creek.  It was the ideal spot as it was sunken down a bit and sheltered from the wind.  There was room to sit our camp chairs and a rudimentary rock bridge to cross to the other side.

Needless to say, we spent a LOT of time hanging out by the creek.  The first order of business was constructing a stable path across.  I spent about an hour on Saturday morning working on it.  And I was loving every minute!

My first attempt at rearranging the rocks presented a new problem by blocking water flow and sending water into the area where our chairs sat. I quickly corrected this by opening the dam in a few spots and strategically placed a few rocks to create unique waterfalls and movements.  Can you tell I was like a kid in a sandbox?!?

Once the bridge/dam project was complete, we just sat and read and relaxed!  The girls explored and collected waterbugs.  Well, that would be Zoe that collected the bugs in her red pail.  As the sun warmed us up, the chairs made their way INTO the creek.  I took a nap one afternoon for who knows how long as the sounds of rushing water kept me in a perfect slumber.

Later that evening we found Megan relaxing in the creek working on her State Park Junior Ranger booklet.  Both girls are certified junior rangers in Colorado!  They have the badges to prove it.  If you ever visit a state or national park with kids, you need to check out these free programs!

I think we'd all agree that we miss the creek more than any other part of our camping trip.  There is just something about the moving water that calms the soul.
