The Polar Bear Plunge

In the past I've blogged about a long-standing family tradition we had growing up of the polar bear prize contest (here).  And how the plunge has taken on different forms (here).  Well, it was Memorial Day weekend, the typical date of the polar bear prize at Newfound Lake in NH, and we had perfect contest conditions with icy water just a few feet from our campsite.

I presented the idea of the contest and Zoe immediately said she was in.  Megan would not commit, but said she'd think about it.

What was the prize?  Large ice cream sundaes if we could find a shop when we went into town.  The only rule is that 100% of your body must go under water.

Let me tell you that while the sun was out, the air was not very warm.  The wind even made it chillier.  The water was very cold - but refreshing!

I'll let the pictures & video below finish off the story.  All four Andersons took the plunge (in the order shown) with Tanya needing the longest time to build up enough courage.

Rocky was quite unimpressed with our antics.

Tanya doesn't get full credit because her nose didn't go under!  Haha!

  1. Congratulations to all who took the plunge and won... polar bear prizes are still awarded here at the Lake on M. Day!
