With a beautiful day on tap for Sunday, we decided to go on a hike to Devils Head. I had planned this hike for Mothers Day, but had to pass then because of foul weather.
The girls were hiking champs and loved every minute of it. I think Zoe climbed twice as much as any of us by taking numerous detours climbing up rocks. It's only a three mile hike, but there is some decent elevation gain. I must have warned the girls to "save their energy" about fifty times. But it was all in vain. They powered up and down with ease.
Hiking with the girls taps into something deep within Tanya & I. We both grew up with our parents cultivating in us a love for the outdoors. It's a joy to see our girls enthralled with finding cool rocks and "Y" sticks...not to mentioned about 12 other letters of the alphabet, and spotting fictitious wild animals in the trees (yes, Zoe is confident she saw a polar bear). A highlight was hearing and seeing a woodpecker. Of course I had to tell them of just how much I was called "Woody Woodpecker" as a kid. They didn't seem to find it as funny as the kids I went to elementary school did.
We all had titles for the hike. Megan was Leader 1 (L1) and lead the charge since she had done this hike before. Zoe & I alternated between L2 & L3. Tanya was the "caboose". All in all it was a great family day!
And how great to have the beauty of Colorado to enjoy hiking in!
ReplyDeleteI see long legs - good family day. I remember when Tanya was a little girl and dragging during the hike Dad would say thee were snakes behind her then she would speed up - seemed funny at the time but couldn't imagine saying that to the grandchildren. steve would run up ahead and hid behind trees and rocks to scare her - I'm surprised she is still hiking.
ReplyDeletecool pic! :) Keeper.
