Starbucks with Dad

Starbucks with Dad
A couple months back I started a thing where I take each girl out each month on a hot chocolate date with Dad. The idea was that if I could get them talking about their lives now, it will only be natural when I want to start understanding where they're at during those "more challenging" teenage years.

My first outing with Megan went quite well. We split a cup of hot chocolate and talked about school, friends, family fun and anything else that came to mind. It all took about 35 minutes.

My first outing with Zoe was a ridiculous disaster. First off, she guzzled the cup of hot chocolate in 30 seconds....and I'm not kidding. Then any attempt to ask her a question was met with a silly response. Since she had such a quick infusion of sugar, there was no keeping her in her seat. With all this said, we were heading out the door of Starbucks about 7 minutes after we entered.

Since that experience, I've now instituted the rule that you MUST be in kindergarten in order to begin have hot chocolate dates with Dad!

  1. My kids guzzle hot chocolate too, like if they don't drink it fast enough I will take it away. Kids are kinda territorial with chocolate.

Great activity with your kids though.

  3. What a great idea! I still remember with fondness my Friday morning McDonalds dates with my dad. It was THE reason I made it through Jr. High! Keep it up!
