The Banquet

The Banquet
Here we are again! This is now Saturday night at the induction ceremony. What a cool event! I’m so glad Gordon does this, because there were some astounding stories recounted of athletic endeavors and the impact of those experiences long after the "glory days" have disappeared.

The day started with an alumni basketball game. At 8am! I played in this game about 7 years ago. On that day, there were about 15 other alums that were older than me. This year? Just one…Jim. Another former teammate of ours, John Russell, also showed up for the day. The three old guys + two young guys took on a team of all young guys…ones that had graduated from the program in the past couple years. I’m proud to say that I was on the winning team! I didn’t contribute that much to our success, but we squeaked out a three point win. Jim on the other hand easily demonstrated that not much has changed since he last took the floor about 13 years ago. He schooled the young guys!

Jim was (and still is) an awesome player. He is Gordon’s all-time leading scorer and I heard for the first time on Saturday, that he tallied 63 dunks during his career! That’s 62.5 more than me! His stats and accomplishments are numerous, but I was reminded just prior to the alumni game how stepping on to the court with him gave me and all his teammates a huge boost of confidence.
