Thanks Nana!

Thanks Nana!
Sometimes Nana comes up with some pretty creative ideas and this one really takes the cake. A few weeks ago we received a package with a butterfly pavilion and 10 larvae in it. We set them up in a place where they wouldn't be disturbed but could be viewed easily by the kids.

After a week, the little fuzzy black caterpillars crawled up to the top of their container and hung head down for a day or so until their cocoon formed around them. It was fascinating! I was probably the one most excited about the whole thing. The girls and I checked on them often for the next week waiting for our babies to hatch.

Sure enough, 7-10 days after they formed, they came out as beautiful butterflies! Nana had planned it well, because she was visiting while this took place. Their life cycle is only about 2-3 weeks, and since I didn't want to have 10 dead butterflies on my hands, we decided to let them go. Megan and Zoe loved watching each of them fly away. As they did they waved and said "bye-bye butterfly"! The whole thing was really a cool experience. I would recommend it to anyone...who likes butterflies of course.

  1. I wasn't able to be there for the farewell party but it was all so cool. For those of you out there that are interested the following year you can just send the "refils" (baby catapillers). If you want purchase information email me at Sharon@Megzo.com - cool picture!
