Bye Bye Fishies

Bye Bye Fishies
I few months back, we asked your opinion on whether or not we should remove the fish from our pond and chlorinate the water to get rid of the algae.

Well, we took your thoughts to heart and decided to....get rid of the pond altogether! Yes, we're going to fill it in soon.

Since we have about two weeks before the dirt starts to pour in, we had to scramble to find a home for Dorothy and her 14 small friends. Thanks to Craigslist, it wasn't hard to find someone who wanted Dorothy. The smaller fish weren't wanted so we decided to bring them to an "orphan" pond at a local pond store. They maintain a nice pond for all the unwanted fish.

The only problem is that we didn't expect the difficulty we'd experience trying to catch those little buggers. We had to buy a fish net just for the occasion. Here's the equation that best describes what happened:

Small net + Lots of water + Lots of hiding places + Stirred up murky water + Lightning quick fishies + Man with slow reflexes = an amazingly frustrating experience.

The light bulb eventually went off and we unhooked the pump and started pumping the water out of the pond. Yes, we finally won the battle as we minimized the amount of pond space they had to dart around and hide.

  1. Thats why man invented the wheel and can drive and fish still have to swim (its really early out here, so I'm just going with that comment).
