We love our chocolate lab, Lucy. We think she's the best dog around. We were pretty happy having one pet. When we bought our house, we were forced to adopt 2 koi fish (and about 50 koi minnows) that live in a little pond in our backyard. At first, I was annoyed with the idea of caring for a pond and the fish it contained, but they've grown on us all and are now part of the family.

About 2 months ago Megan & I were in the car and I asked her what their names were, as we had never discussed this before. The first one was easy. She replied, 'Dorothy'. Of course, Dorothy, every fish Megan would see (minus Nemo) that had any tint of orange in it would be called Dorothy. Named after Elmo's little goldfish. I asked her what the name of the other fish was (knowing full well he didn't have a name). And she replied without hesitation, 'Grumpy'. Grumpy?? I didn't even know she knew that was a word. So Grumpy it is.

Enjoy Dorothy & Grumpy's internet debut.

Turkey Trivia: Age is a determining factor in taste. Old, large males are preferable to young toms (males) as tom meat is stringy. The opposite is true for females: old hens are tougher birds.

Bonus Trivia: The fleshy growth from the base of the beak, which is very long on male turkeys and hangs down over the beak, is called the snood.
