The Birds

The Birds
So for about 2-3 weeks around this time of year, our pond out back gets invaded by thousands of red-wing blackbirds. They come to visit for about 30-45 minutes twice a day at sunrise & sunset. They form a dense black ring around the pond as they hang out in the reeds. And boy are they loud! The sound penetrates the house and will easily wake you up.

What's really fun is walking outside and giving one loud clap of your hands. Those birds get spooked and they all take off at once. The cool "whoosh" sound their wings produce is much more pleasant.

This picture only captures about 1/10 of the action after a clap.
