I've discovered a new passion that I never thought I would have...mountain biking! I tried it a few times in college and thought I was going to break my neck, so I decided I would steer clear of it in the future. I never understood why my friend Paul loved it so much, until this weekend.
It started out as an easy and fairly flat family bike ride to a beautiful overlook in the open area behind our house. On our way back, Woody encouraged me to take a trail down the mountain that lead to our house. He would ride with the girls in the buggy back to the car and see me at home. For some crazy reason, I decided that was a good idea. So I slipped through a rusty gate and entered a world that was unknown to me on a bike. The sun was settling down behind the mountains as it was about 7:15pm, and I was a little anxious to be without my cell phone in a secluded area. The "Beware of Rattlesnakes" signs didn't help either! All this gave me incentive to get down the hill, fast. So after studying the trail map for a spell, I set off. I wasn't sure I read the sign right, so after about 1/4 mi., I ended up heading back to read it again. This time I knew I was headed the right way, so I hightailed it out of there. It was a crazy, bumpy, and skinny trail. I thought for sure I was being chased by a mountain lion at one point and almost crashed trying to look over my shoulder. Thankfully, there was no lion. I made it down just before Woody called Search and Rescue.
Today, I ventured out again and had a great time! I realized why I think I like it so much, because when I go down hill it reminds me of what it felt like to ride my horse and jump over small log piles in Tuckers Grove Park when I was a kid. (Posted by Tanya)
Mountain biking? Yikes! But, it's good to discover new adventures : )
ReplyDeleteI tell you what little girl - you have a whole bunch of your Dad's "what me worry" adventure spirit in you. Be careful he did end up with broken ribs and collarbones. So did your brother - falling off a bar stool - when he was 3. Now roller coasters that I understand. By the way I dreamt I killed a big snake last night - but no lions.
ReplyDeletefuel the addiction - demo a nice bike with shocks (front and back) and you will never be the same. the shocks prevent any and all kinds of falling... kind of.
