Last night I went into work to apply all the 2007 DST patches to our systems. Unless you've been living under a rock lately, you've no doubt heard about the changes to daylight savings time that will take effect in a few weeks. DST will begin three weeks early on March 11...and then end one week late on 11/4. Well, this energy saving tactic by the government is creating major headaches for us in the IT community.
The worst part is that the Energy Policy Act of 2005 was passed in....you guess it...2005. Why is it that with about 7 weeks before the new DST takes effect, Microsoft finally releases the necessary patches/fixes to allow computer systems to recognize the change? Seems like it would have made life much easier if we did this months ago when people weren't setting up calendar appointments in the new "extended" DST?!?
Every Windows-based computer needs to be updated, unless you have the new Windows Vista operating system. If you haven't updated your home computer yet, here's the link to Microsoft's site to figure out what you need to do: Microsoft DST
